The first community Sleep Out to End Homelessness is right around the corner, but there still is time to register. The Sleep Out will be held at the Rock County Fairgrounds beginning Friday, November 6th at 6 PM and wrapping up Saturday, November 7th at 7 AM. Registration is $15 and can be done online at www.rock-hitf.org or by calling Jessica at (608) 754-5333. You can also find out more on Facebook.
Registration includes dinner and breakfast. 100% of proceeds will benefit programs at ECHO, Edgerton Community Outreach, G.I.F.T.S., House of Mercy and Project 16:49. The five organizations are members of the Rock County Homeless Intervention Task Force.
The event is being held during National Homelessness Awareness Month, and is designed to raise both awareness of homelessness in Rock County and funds to support local services that assist homeless individuals and families as they work toward increased self-sufficiency. Though choosing to spend a single night outside cannot begin to replicate what it is really like to be homeless, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss homelessness in our community.
“We hope that people of all ages and backgrounds will choose to Sleep Out in honor and support of the hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds in our community who face the challenges of homelessness,” says Tammy DeGarmo, executive director of Project 16:49, a local non-profit serving unaccompanied homeless youth.
