Helping youth work toward independent living
Project 16:49 operates two Transitional Living Program (TLP) homes, one in Beloit and one in Janesville. The TLPs offer up to 18 months of supervised shared housing and support to youth ages 17-21 (Rock County only) who are working toward independent living. Each home can accommodate 8 residents.
While there, youth participate in age-appropriate case management that focuses on individual well-being, goal planning, self-sufficiency, and life skills, including:
- Budgeting, saving money
- Meal planning and cooking
- Managing their own health care
- Getting and keeping a job
- Finding an apartment and being a good tenant
- Personal and household safety
- Developing a support network
- Communication and coping skills
